Agriculture provides livelihood to more than half of India’s population, contributing to the economy and the total GDP. Farmers are the ones who provide food for the entire country earning them the well – deserved title of ‘Annadata’.
Schools supported and backed by Akshardhara are mainly situated in agrarian villages by large, facing not only seasonal employment but also acute water shortages. People are bound by superstitious beliefs, misconceptions about the correct use of fertilizers and chemicals etc. posing a great challenge for these farmers to make the ends meet and run their household around the year.
Akshardhara has helped a number of these drought bearing areas to upgrade their ways of farming by building wells, soil & crop testing, teaching farmers modern and organic farming techniques and methods along with financing providing monetary assistance for various mechanical tools & other equipment and encouraging diversification of crop output.
Akshardhara has been undertaking multitude of such projects in order to make farmers & their families economically independent and self-sufficient, giving their children chance at a better future.
